Comic #8: Dinner Distractions

Comic #8: Dinner Distractions published on 8 Comments on Comic #8: Dinner Distractions

This really is how the dorms are at SCAD (at least for the Weston and Dyson houses, which is where I spent most of my on-campus time during undergrad). SCAD has a reputation for buying up old properties around Savannah and renovating them into new buildings for the school. In this case, it wound up giving every pair of students their own private bathroom and shower, which was an absolute blessing compared to the majority of other student housing options in other schools.

The cafe here — Cafe SCAD — is actually connected to Weston House (Peter starts off in Dyson, which is across the parking lot). You’ll be seeing a lot of the cafe in this comic during the “On-Campus” years.

Also, continuing with the tradition established in Peter & Company, this is the first official page of P&W to feature character cameos! Thanks to the following individuals who contributed their characters to the page:

Ironmania | Thwaitesy | CorneliusNoir | QueerOfTheRooster | WolfMare | DustyTufty | Bakertoons | Axel | CRWolf | Apastatiger | DWorld | MajormattMason

And the two lovely ladies stealing Eugene’s attention are from InfinitEdge and Foxarron! If you’d like to contribute your own characters to a future page, you just need to tune in to my streams on Picarto when I’m drawing a page that requires them. Cameos have always been and will always be free of charge; all you need to do is show up to the stream.

Those pretty faces, squishy bossoms and fluffy tails are sure to sate man’s hunger like nothing else. Aye? >;p

This is a question for Jon Ponikvar:
What is your experience with SCAD? I went to a Art school here in Colorado (it was a for-profit) and it was pretty bad. I’ve heard others have gone to SCAD, but not completely sure if it’s a good place to get an art degree. What is your opinion of the place?
Also do they have a Game Art Degree available?

Other then that, wanted to say I enjoy both of your comics. The lighthearted humor and realistic characters are wonderful, and because of this it’s possible to connection or relate to them. You are doing an awesome job and I look forward to each page you release. I actually have two active tabs open in my browser, one for each of your two comic series.

    Nice job!

    • Aw, thank you! I’m glad you’re enjoying them so far! 🙂

As for SCAD, I definitely would recommend it. The school was just a fantastic environment and the faculty is staffed with industry veterans, so they’re all amazing (especially the Sequential Art and Animation departments). The only warning I would give is that it IS a liberal arts school, so the price is a bit high compared to other more traditional degrees. But I still would say it’s worth it.

And yes, they do have a Game Design degree! That program actually kicked off while I was attending (I was at the school from 2002 to 2010, for undergrad and grad studies in Sequential Art).

Also to those curious as to how autobiographical this comic is: I actually met Whitney for the first time at SCAD when I returned for grad studies in ’07. So this comic is kind of a blend of stories from my own time in undergrad, merged with stories from when Whitney and I first started dating (and beyond).

      He’s a college/university student. It’s practically a prerequisite.

My younger brother is the workout nut/chick magnet type. Before he started his freshman year, he made a bet with our mom that he wouldn’t get a girlfriend during his first semester. He didn’t quite make it through, but claims he did because they didn’t “make it official” until the start of the very next semester. They’re now both Seniors and engaged.

He’s hungry alright. He’s hungry for something sweet…IN BED! :happySnowman:
But in all due seriousness, I have to say that’s pretty sweet of that particular university to buy and renovate old properties. Trust me when I say that I’ve lived through some nasty experiences during my time at the dorms.
